Our club was represented at area level on Sunday 6th March by:

Club International Speech Contest Winner = Stephen D (didn’t place out of 4 competitors)

Club Evaluator Contest Winner = Donald P (placed 3rd out of 5 competitors) Well done Donald!

All were welcome.

Stephen’s thoughts on the area competition as a first time attendee… I was surprised at how few people were there! I’d expected it to be a great opportunity to practice speaking to a larger audience, sadly that wan’t the case. Abingdon Speakers had 7 attendees (plus John’s 2 children) and so our club made up about half the numbers. The main thing that struck me was that one of the main Toastmasters ethos’ is that of evaluation. It seems that at a competition no one is publicly evaluated, seems strange, but I guess it wouldn’t be practical?
